Well, not all my subjects growl like this mountain lion, but some are more deadly. Or, at least toxic like the Cyanobacteria on my algae page. The cougar was actually growling at my guide who had climbed in the tree to break limbs which were blocking her face in my image. After getting the shot I wanted, we backed off from the tree to allow that beautiful animal to take off. She did. Quickly. Near Alturas CA. Part of an assignment from an Internatioanl Photo Agency.
I have observed, tested, collected and photographed well over a thousand waterways while fishing, filming and loving our water sources. I specialize in Cyanophta (Blue-green algae), diatoms and other algal species. As an avid fly-fisher, I have studied aquatic invertebrates for many years.
Marine algae, depending on your information source, are responsible for producing 60-80 percent of the oxygen on Earth. I love forests too and tropical jungles, but they do not produce the majority of oxygen on our planet. Plus, some of the blue-green algae were responsible for creating enough oxygen 2000 million years ago to allow life to exist on the green earth.
Combining my love of waterways, studies about aquatic invertebrates and travel makes fly fishing the best outlet for my passions. And of course, fishing with Laurie Banks, my dream partner, makes for a wonderful life.
Education is paramount to the challenge of balancing human needs and the requirements of sensitive wildlife. That effort is greatly assisted by professional quality images that show the species in their natural environment. This is a Tadpole Shrimp (Lepidurus packardi) , a denizen of California's vernal pools. They thrive during the wet phase and survive the dry phase during our long hot summers.
